So everyone makes mistakes in life. Some are more severe or longer-lasting that others. Cut to my brother-in-law. Without a lot of back story, he was married and had two sons (my wonderful 5 year old and 3 year old nephews). The marriage was awful and he filed for divorce a few years ago.
Long story short, he made some bad decisions (or decisions that maybe weren’t best for him) and things happened. He is now engaged to a wonderful woman we all love- she has two beautiful daughters who are 9 and 7 years old. They are soon to be a big happy family.
Enter in a certified letter from the State of TN telling my brother in law he had been named as a possible father (along with 5 other men) of a child that is currently in the State’s custody. Needless to say, all men submitted for a paternity test and as we like to say, he won. The mother’s rights to the baby girl were immediately taken away by the state once the baby was born due to child endangerment to her son (who was adopted to a wonderful family – who is actually the same family that was keeping my new niece until her father was located)
It’s put a little bump in the road but we are all overcoming the shock, disruption, and surprise this has been and are now excitedly awaiting the arrival of sweet Mackynzie Addison who will be joining our family on Feb. 27th. She will be 6 months old this month! Husband and I went out yesterday and bought a new car seat and stroller for the B-I-L and new baby. We are all so excited. Her room is filled with a closet full of clothes, toys, and her furniture has been ordered. Now she will be riding in style and everything is set.
It may have been unplanned but we cannot wait for this exciting chapter in our family’s lives!
